Business Details

Based on the corporate philosophy of Computing Innovation®, “Creating a new computing environment,” we have been conducting research and development of speech synthesis technology since the company’s founding, aiming for a society in which all people can live in peace and prosperous. We are also engaged in research and development of language translation technology and speech synthesis not only for Japanese, but also for English, Chinese, Korean, and other languages. Utilizing this text-to-speech technology, our company provides disaster prevention and mitigation solution services to police, local governments, municipalities, public offices, firefighting organizations, educational institutions, and corporate groups nationwide. We also assist research and development of speech recognition and spoken language for universities and corporate research divisions.

Internet Service

The following Internet services provided by our company are basically a billing type business where subscribers pay a monthly usage fee (subscription business model). Our services are used by 1,600 customers, mainly local governments, and municipal offices. The main usage is for disaster prevention and firefighting, whereas in the past, special equipment was required, but now subscription/cloud services like ours are becoming mainstream.
To provide these services, we rent data centers at three locations in Japan and handle everything in-house, from server setup, operation, to maintenance. Particularly for telephone, we have built our own telephone switching system (IP-PBX) that utilizes Internet connection, which we use in our services along with our text-to-speech technology.
Below are Internet services that we provide and sold to our customers directly, or through manufacturers of disaster prevention administrative radios and telecommunications carriers.

SpeeCAN®RAIDEN

SpeeCAN®RAIDEN

This service can simultaneously transmit disaster information to various media such as e-mail, telephone, fax, SNS, emergency early warning e-mail, disaster information applications, and disaster prevention administrative radio. The service can also be linked to J-ALERT and weather information.
We also provide services for firefighting staff and firefighter attendance system dedicated to firefighting operations.

SpeeCAN®Timeline

SpeeCAN®Timeline

This is a service for sharing disaster information on a map, mainly for disaster and crisis management staffs in public offices. By linking location information with photos and videos, it is possible to accurately grasp the disaster situation at the disaster site. In addition, by linking with the Hazardon® disaster information application, it is also possible to assist registration process at evacuation shelters or send notifications (push notifications) about disaster information to smart phones and other devices.

NET119

NET119

This service uses text chat to make emergency calls for fire and emergency services, as it is difficult for people with hearing and speech disabilities to make 119 phone-call (voice call). NET119 also has an optional function to make a video call, which can be used at a broad range of disaster scenes by checking real-time video.

Cloud-based AVM System: UGOKUMON® (Note 1)

Cloud-based AVM System: UGOKUMON® (Note 1)

This service manages the status of fire engines or ambulances (e.g., being dispatched, transporting patient, returning to the station, arriving on the incident site, starting water discharge, etc.) on a map. While conventional AVM requires on-board hardware devices, UGOKUMON® can be used with browser on a tablet device or smartphone.
(Note 1). AVM stands for Automatic Vehicle Monitoring, which is used to monitor and manage the status and location of vehicles.

Disaster Information App: Hazardon®

Disaster Information App: Hazardon®

This is a smartphone application to view information such as hazard maps and evacuation shelters on a map. The hazard maps and evacuation shelters cover the entire country, and information can be linked to SpeeCAN®Timeline and SpeeCAN®RAIDEN. Furthermore, weather warnings and other information are automatically distributed according to the designated area, making it possible to use this information for voluntary evacuation in the event of a disaster. The Hazardon® disaster prevention application is provided free of charge for use by residents.

Spoken Language Research & Development

We mainly provide solutions utilizing our SpeeCAN® speech synthesis engine to manufacturers of disaster prevention administrative radio systems. We also provide speech synthesis and language processing technologies to manufacturers developing car navigation systems, TV games, and other products. In addition, we have been assisting national and foreign research institutes or companies to conduct part of their R&D work in speech recognition and speech synthesis.
Currently, our speech synthesis technology is shifting from the conventional corpus-based approach that utilizes large amounts of speech data to a deep learning (DNN (Note 2)) based method. We are also engaged in research and development of speech synthesis not only for Japanese, but also for English, Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and other languages.
(Note 2). DNN is an abbreviation for Deep Neural Network, a method of pattern learning that mimics the mechanism of human neurons.

Spoken Language Research & Development

Other Applications

We sell through our distributors AcousticCore®, a speech waveform analysis and editing software that includes basic functions for editing speech waveforms and analyzing speech characteristics and features necessary for speech research. We also sell VoiceAid® smartphone application, a communication tool developed for people with speech difficulties.
